[Termination is acknowledged by the social work profession to be
a critically important area because of the opportunity to resolve
previous losses and to set guidelines for handling future ones. Yet,
little is written about appropriate ways to do this and almost nothing
is written about the relationship of the child's previous losses to
termination techniques. The intent in studying this area has been to
find out if workers do, in fact, plan their therapeutic terminations
with the child's previous losses in mind, and perhaps more important,
to stimulate thought and discussion about this sensitive area.]
